You may be a potential Executive Board Member if you are a member of NJTESOL/NJBE, Inc. and are interested in:

  • Expressing new ideas and opinions about Bilingual and ESL programs in New Jersey and the nation;
  • Providing leadership for one of the special interest groups;
  • Donating the second Friday night of each month for Board meetings; and
  • Being a member of a professionally active board.

Terms of office begin May 2010 for all positions and continue for two consecutive years ending May, 2012.

ALL executive board members must participate in ALL meetings, including monthly Friday evening meetings, Saturday June 26th retreat meeting, Saturday, December adjudication meeting and workshops of the organization.

Executive board members must have a comfortable familiarity with technology and/or a willingness to learn.

Eligibility
Candidates for any position on the Executive Board must have been members of NJTESOL/NJBE for at least one year before their candidacy. Positions which currently must be filled, include:

Special Interest Group Representatives
All special interest group representatives must be members of the special interest group which they represent. Membership in NABE or TESOL is required.

Duties:

  • Be cognizant of the problems and needs of students and educators in areas of interest
  • Make the problems of students and educators known to the executive committee of NJTESOL/NJBE for discussion and analysis so that solutions may be sought
  • Provide articles for the quarterly newsletter, VOICES
  • Contribute services to the organization through research work, serving on subcommittees, recruiting new members, coordinating workshops for SIG members at the NJTESOL/NJBE Annual Spring Conference, and anything that would foster the association's purpose
  • Provide two in-service workshops for SIG. members at the NJTESOL/NJBE Annual Spring Conference
  • Keep documents pertinent to their SIG Activities
  • Send notices to SIG members about workshops offered at the Spring Conference

Vice President

  • Candidates for Vice-President must have served a minimum of one full year on the Executive Board
  • Must become members of both TESOL and NABE
  • Serves as conference chairperson and is responsible for all aspects of the Spring conference
  • Presides in the absence of the President in the execution of business
  • Commits to serving two years as Vice President, two years as President and two years as immediate Past President to ensure continuity of the organization

Treasurer

  • Candidates for Treasurer must have been on the Executive Board for at least one year or have served as intern for at least six months
  • Must become members of both TESOL and NABE
  • Maintains all financial records and receives and dispenses funds as approved by the Executive Board via the Office Manager
  • Presents a financial report at each meeting of the Executive Board and at the Annual Business Meeting.
  • Presents an annual budget for approval by the Executive Board by October of each year
  • The Treasurer shall also make arrangements for the preparation of an official annual financial audit and submit an annual report to the IRS as well as to the NJ Tax Bureau and to the NJ Office of Commercial Recording
