Advice for Mixed Levels in High School

Question:
Can you offer suggestions for ESL high school teachers who have students from four grade levels as well as 2-3 English Language Development levels in one ESL class?  I think I'm going to continue to focus on developing vocabulary, informational reading skills, and will have to focus heavily on language that will travel across both grade level and content area.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

My colleague Caia and I also teach in similar situations. This year we presented a workshop entitled Common Core State Standards and High School ELLs at Spring Conference where we shared strategies and examples of differentiated student work/assignments along with examples of various levels of adapted text that we use in our curriculum. Check out our presentation and a list of resources where you could find such texts on the NJTESOL website.
