EXECUTIVE BOARD POSITIONS
NJTESOL/NJBE is committed to the recruitment of racially minoritized bilingual and ESL professionals to our Executive Board who represent the diverse ethnic, racial and linguistic background of New Jersey’s student population. Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) members are encouraged to run for open positions.

Nominations must be submitted by 10:00 PM April 4, 2025
You may be a potential Executive Board Member if you are a member of NJTESOL/NJBE, Inc. and are interested in:
- Expressing new ideas and opinions about Bilingual and ESL programs in New Jersey and the nation;
- Providing leadership for one of the special interest groups;
- Donating one night of each month for Board meetings; and
- Being a member of a professionally active board.
Terms of office begin May 2025 for all positions and continue for two consecutive years ending May, 2027.
ALL executive board members must participate in ALL of the following meetings:
- Friday evening meetings (6pm-9pm) in Sept., Oct., Jan., Feb. Mar., and Apr. predominantly online
- Saturday (9am-2pm) meetings in June (Summer Retreat) and Dec. (conference adjudication) location to be determined
- Organization workshops and conferences
Executive board members must have a comfortable familiarity with technology and/or a willingness to learn.
Eligibility
Candidates for any position on the Executive Board must have been members of NJTESOL/NJBE for at least one year before their candidacy, and must be currently employed in the positions for which they are running.

Secretary
Duties:
- Keep and send minutes of all Executive Board meetings.
- Maintain the Executive Board’s contact information.
- Maintain a list of Executive Board attendance at all meetings.
- Maintain a list of Executive Board Members and their terms of office.
- Serve on the Budget Committee and Hiring Committee.
- Participate in social networking in order to acquaint the public with our organization’s goals and the topics for which the organization advocates.
- Perform any other responsibilities or duties deemed necessary by the president.
- Maintain an online shared folder of any documents relevant to position on the NJTESOL/NJBE Executive Board including, but not limited to, presentations, articles, or reports that were created under the position.
- Maintain membership in TESOL and NABE.
Liaison
Duties:
- Maintain active contact with TESOL, NABE, and with other TESOL and NABE affiliates in order to encourage collaboration.
- Take minutes at Executive Board meetings in the absence of the secretary.
- Participate in social networking in order to acquaint the public with our organization’s goals and the topics for which the organization advocates.
- Perform any other responsibilities or duties deemed necessary by the president.
- Maintain a membership in TESOL and NABE
NJEA Rep-At-Large
Duties:
- Coordinate participation at and attend the NJEA convention.
- Represent NJTESOL/NJBE at NJEA Affiliate meetings and turnkey information at Executive Board meetings.
- Arrange the NJTESOL/NJBE booth at the NJEA convention.
- Solicit workshops representative of NJTESOL/NJBE at the NJEA Convention and coordinate reimbursement of related presenters:
- Advertise on the hotlist, communicate to staff and presenters, and send reminders for reimbursement.
- Make public the NJEA workshops of interest to NJTESOL/NJBE members.
- Coordinate with the Socio-Political Representative.
- Solicit articles for the NJEA Review.
- Advertise the annual Spring Conference in the NJEA Review.
- Participate in social networking in order to acquaint the public with our organization’s goals and the topics for which the organization advocates.
- Maintain an online shared folder of any documents relevant to the position on the NJTESOL/NJBE Executive Board including, but not limited to, presentations, articles, or reports that were created under the position.
- Perform any other responsibilities or duties deemed necessary by the president.
- Maintain memberships in TESOL or NABE.
Special Interest Group Representatives shall
- Represent their SIG constituency at Executive Board meetings
- Keep constituents informed of issues and events particular to their area of interest through newsletter articles and participation in discussions on the NJTESOL/NJBE e‐listserv (hotlist)
- Actively recruit participation of their constituents in presenting workshops at the Annual Spring Conference
- Submit a proposal and present for a SIG meeting at the Annual Spring Conference
- Support Chapters by attending and presenting as needed
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board including the Conference proposal adjudication meeting, pre‐conference preparation meeting and the annual retreat
- Provide support at the Annual Spring Conference to the Conference Chair. The number of hours for this support will be decided by the Conference Chair
- Solicit and review scholarship/award applications.
- Involvement in professional associations related to SIG area
- Participate in social networking in order to acquaint the public with our organization’s goals and the topics for which the organization advocates
- Perform any other responsibilities or duties deemed necessary by the president
