ELIGIBILITY:
The applicant must be:
- 4th grade student in a NEW JERSEY school
- Currently receiving bilingual and/or ESL instruction
- Arrived in the United States less than 3 years ago, after March 15, 2022 (Please be sure to check the student’s records for ESL participation in other school districts or programs.)
- Referring teacher MUST be a current member of NJTESOL/NJBE, Inc.
DEADLINE:
All sections of the award applications must be received on or before March 15, 2025.
No incomplete or late applications will be considered.
DOCUMENTS:
There are 3 documents to prepare so they can be scanned or photographed and uploaded to the end of the form below.
- Writing Challenge – preferably to be hand-written on paper and photographed or scanned. Teachers and others may assist by discussing the topic and brainstorming with the student, but the writing must be exclusively that of the student with no editing by others.
Topic: In 100-200 words, (in English) “How would you help a new person in your class who doesn’t speak English?” (Think about your own experience. Did anyone help you?)
Please note that if writing seems to be edited by someone other than the student, the application will be rejected. All submissions will be reviewed for plagiarism and AI such as Chat GPT and must be authentic, original writing in the student’s own English. - 4th Grade Certification and Permission Form
- Teacher’s Recommendation on a document to upload – Include:
Student’s Name, School
Teacher’s Name, Title, Cell Phone Number, Email
The reasons you would recommend your student for this award.
(The recommending teacher must be a member of NJTESOL/NJBE.)
Note! Applications may be started and saved, and an email will be sent to the applicant and/or instructor with the resume link.
